Handyman scope vs enclosure contractor
| Work | Who does it |
|---|---|
| Torn or loose screen panels | Handyman |
| Popped spline | Handyman |
| Screen door closers, hinges, latches, rollers | Handyman |
| Bent or cracked aluminum beams, loose structure | Licensed enclosure contractor |
| New enclosures or full replacement | Licensed contractor, usually with a permit |
Screen options
Standard screen is the usual choice. Heavier pet-resistant screen resists claws; privacy and solar screens reduce glare and visibility but also reduce airflow and view. Some associations restrict color and type.
Making it last
- Rinse screens gently to remove salt and pollen
- Keep plants and furniture from rubbing panels
- Close screen doors gently and keep closers adjusted
- Fix small tears before wind enlarges them
