What Florida allows a handyman to do
Florida law (section 489.103, Florida Statutes) exempts some minor work from contractor licensing. DBPR describes the exemption as covering work that is casual, minor or inconsequential, with a total contract price under $2,500 for labor and materials. DBPR also notes that work requiring a building permit generally doesn't qualify, and that licensed trades such as plumbing, electrical and air conditioning work require the appropriate license. Rules change, so check DBPR's current guidance for your project.
